Q & A
Sterling Silver Clay
Since 1st October 2016 Fingerprint Jewellery Studio is now using Sterling Silver instead of fine silver.
How strong is fine silver (fired art clay silver)? 2007 - 2016
Art clay silver, when properly fired, will be strong enough for making pendants, earring, rings and most common jewellery items. It will withstand normal wear and tear. Art clay is quite durable, but excess force could result in an item snapping.
What is the difference between fine and sterling silver?
Fine silver is pure silver (0.999 or 99.9% pure). Sterling silver is 92.5% silver to which other metals are added, primarily copper, creating an alloy. The addition of particular metals to silver makes sterling harder than fine silver, but also more prone to tarnish.
How do I pay?
Home visits/ Group bookings
We will gladly visit you in the comfort of your own home and at a time to suit you. Taking your child's fingerprint shouldn't take more than a few minutes of your time. Should you wish to try on our jewellery prior to ordering, our designer will bring a sample selection for you to browse. Home visits are currently restricted to North West Wales. We will consider home visits outside of this area should you wish to book a group party. Please contact us for further details.
How do I take the print?
When you purchase one of our products, you will receive a kit. This includes moulding materials (which allow you to take up to two moulds) and a step by step instruction guide. If your child is young and fidgety, you may want to take the impression when they are sleeping! The same may also apply when taking pet prints!
What if I am not happy with any of the moulds I make?
If you are not happy with any of the moulds you produce from the kit, we can send out a replacement kit free of charge.
How old does my child have to be to have the impression taken?
We can create fingerprint jewellery from anyone of any age, ranging from newborn to old age! The older the child, the better the print. While babies younger than eight months old have less definition in their prints, we would still be able to produce a lovely little dimple of your baby's finger, which is unique to your child. If your child is less than a year old, we would suggest you take two impressions of the fingertip and one impression of the whole little finger, when taking prints.
An adult fingerprint can also be turned into the perfect gift for Valentine's day, or as a wedding, anniversary or birthday gift.
Could I purchase more than one piece of jewellery with the same finger print?
Yes! We can make as many items as you like with the mould.
When will I receive the kit?
The Fingerprint Jewellery Kit will be posted out to you within 48 hours of purchase. Express Delivery will be posted out the same working day, if ordered before 3pm.
How do I send it back?
There is a pre-paid envelope provided in your kit.
How long before I receive my finished jewellery?
You should receive the finished jewellery within 21-28 days of when we receive your returned moulds. Express delivery should ensure delivery within 10 working days.
What if I need the jewellery before 21 days?
If you need the finished jewellery by a certain date, it shouldn't be a problem. Just choose Express Service at the checkout when placing your order and we will try our best to meet your requirements. There is a charge of 35% of the total of your order, for 10 day turn around (this service is dependent on when we receive the returned moulds. Should the moulds not be returned within the required time frame for us to complete the jewellery, then we will not be able to finish your order in time).
Is it pure silver?
All of our hand-finished jewellery is 99.9% pure silver. We are able to send finished jewellery to the Birmingham Assay Office to be hallmarked if required, at an additional cost of £35 per item.
How much does the postage cost?
The cost of posting the kit to you is included within the product price. The preferred postage method and price of sending out the finished items is selected by yourself at the checkout stage, as follows:
- 1st Class Post - FREE
- Recorded Delivery £3.40
- Special Delivery £6.40
All above prices are UK deliveries only. International delivery is available with price upon request.
How will my jewellery be packed?
All finished jewellery is presented in a delightful Fingerprint Jewellery Studio gift box.
Can you send the jewellery to a different address?

Is there an additional cost for delivering to a different address? There is no additional cost if the address is within the UK, however, there will be an extra charge for any deliveries outside of the UK. Please contact us for further details.
